  1. This French Blu Ray may be the only time this is released…. (Wrong again!) There are many reasons to like or dislike this film, and I won’t go into the plot here. Easily the most stylish of the early UNIVERSAL’S, MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE boasts German Expressionist visuals and morbid death scenes (a prostitute dumped into the Seine, a murdered woman stuffed up a chimney) mixed with evolutionary heresy and striking period atmosphere (Paris, 1840s). I love it, all the artsy camerawork compliments of Karl Freund, who would shortly direct Karloff in THE MUMMY, and Robert Florey’s inspired/insipid direction, not to mention Herman Rosse’s masterful set…
