Controversial as Godzilla, but an entertaining monster movie nonetheless Oft maligned as a Godzilla movie specifically, this is still an entertaining and expensively produced general giant monster/disaster movie. It has issues such as the eternally infantile attack on Siskel and Ebert by the director (via the silly mayor character). As well as the obvious reliance on dark and rainy scenes to obscure cg imperfections.But it all looks quite good on this most recent blu-ray version, rain and all.   2. Loved Godzilla loping thru rainy NYC and destroying Madison Square Garden. HATED Matthew Broderick’s un-endearing character as well as many of the minor characters. Hank Azaria & his wife (in the film) are equally offensive, shrill and dumb. I have to give credit to Maria Pitillo who was too good as the ditzy girlfriend….she was totally believable. I’ve seen her on Law & Order where she played a druggy prostitute and she was brilliant. Unfortunately this movie probably ruined her career…
