Not because of Michael Keaton’s portrayal as Batman which was a little understated, but because of Jack Nicholson’s over the top portrayal of The Joker. His unique musical take on the material was excellent marketing for the offbeat film.   3. Still really good after all of these years I am old enough to have seen this as an original release in the theaters. I was wondering how well it would stand the test of time especially against the Christopher Nolan franchise, though the only movie I have seen at this point is “Batman Begins.”What I like about Burton’s version over Nolan’s is that Burton kept a little bit of camp from the TV series (yes I also watched this when it was on television), which gave some relief from the darkness of the film.
